BERF_garage™ — Privacy Policy

BERF_garage™ is a personal vehicle-maintenance log. This policy explains what the app collects, how it's used, and the choices you have. We keep it plain and short on purpose.

What we collect

Your account — when you sign in with Apple, we store the anonymous user identifier Apple gives us and, if you share it, your name. We do not receive or store your Apple password. If you choose Apple's private-relay email, we never see your real address.
Your vehicle data — the vehicles, service records, fuel and tire logs, reminders, warranty/registration/inspection dates, shops, and notes you enter.
Photos — receipts, work orders, and vehicle or document images. Some you add on purpose; others are captured when you use a scan feature (for example, scanning a VIN or a receipt saves that photo with the record). A photo may contain whatever is in the picture, such as the text on a receipt.

We do not collect location, contacts, advertising identifiers, or analytics/tracking data, and we do not use third-party trackers.

How your data is used

Only to run the app for you — to store and show your maintenance history across your devices, generate reminders, and produce features you ask for (such as reading details from a photo or exporting your history). We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

Who processes your data (sub-processors)

Apple — Sign in with Apple, for authentication.
Anthropic (Claude AI) — when you use a scan/extract feature, the photo is sent to Anthropic's API so the AI can read structured details (like a VIN, odometer reading, or the fields on a receipt). Per Anthropic's API terms, API inputs are not used to train their models, and are retained only briefly to run the request. We keep the details the AI reads, and for most scans we also save the photo with your record so you have the original — see Photos & retention below.
Cloudflare R2 — stores your scan photos and any photos you attach to a record.
Railway — hosts the app's server and database.
NHTSA (U.S. government) — when you check safety recalls, your vehicle's make, model, and year are sent to the free public NHTSA recall service. Your VIN is not sent.

Where your data lives

Your records are stored in a Postgres database and your photos in Cloudflare R2, both operated for BERF_garage™. Data is protected in transit with HTTPS and access-controlled on the server.

Photos & retention

When a scan saves a photo, it's stored privately in Cloudflare R2 and linked to the record it belongs to. We keep it for as long as you keep that record. You can delete an individual photo or an entire record at any time, and deleting your account removes every photo you've stored. We do not copy photos to your phone's camera roll unless you turn that on in Settings.

Because a scan reads whatever is in the photo, please avoid photographing details you don't want stored — such as full card numbers or Social Security numbers. The app does not extract or save those as data, but they can remain visible in the stored image, so it's best to keep them out of frame.

Access to the app

BERF_garage™ is currently invite-based: new accounts start as pending until approved by the operator or unlocked with an access code. This does not change what data is collected.

Your choices & data deletion

You can edit or delete individual records at any time. You can permanently delete your entire account from Settings → Delete Account — this removes your account and all associated records from the database and deletes your stored photos. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.

Children

BERF_garage™ is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update the effective date above. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
